Mr. Roger Taylor joined Duran Duran as the band's
drummer shortly after John Taylor (unrelated to Roger or Andy Taylor) and
Nick Rhodes formed the band in 1978. For seven successful years,
he was the heartbeat (besides John) of the band we all love. The
band's musical direction took a different turn in 1985 when the band split
into the Power Station and Arcadia, of which Roger was the drummer.
Simon LeBon and Nick Rhodes were part of that as well. Arcadia's
album spawned three hit singles.
Roger left the band in 1986 shortly after the
band's final performance at Live Aid as the original Fab Five. The
reason: the pressures of being in a famous band got to him, so he
quit to a farm in Gloucestershire, England, to spend more time with his
wife.
Roger laid low for several years, content to
live and on his farm. But eventually he got back into music.
He guest-drummed for his old bandmates on Duran Duran's 1995 covers album,
"Thank You." The tracks being: "Perfect Day" and "Watching
The Detectives."
Roger Taylor later joined the London band, Freebass.
They recorded some material, including a single called "Love Is Like Oxygen,"
but they broke up shortly after that. There is a tape of the single
available (but hard to find) which includes four versions of "Love Is Like
Oxygen" and another song called Softunderfoot.
Roger rejoined Duran Duran in 2001.
Currently the band is working on a new album.
