Thanks To Frank
(Warren Cucurullo's 1st solo CD)

I bought this album because I thought Warren might sing on it. Nope. It was an instrumental album. But in no way was I disappointed.

I had heard before that Warren was a protege of the late guitar god, Frank Zappa, having played in his Joe's Garage project. Listening to this album and knowing Warren's background got me interested in Zappa's work. So I bought his greatest hits CD, and I am AMAZED at how much Warren's playing sounds like Frank Zappa's.

Not only has Zappa's technical style seemed to have rubbed off on Warren, so has his guitar-playing genius. Simply put, this album is sheer musical brilliance.

If you're an aspiring guitarist or avid Frank Zappa fan, I highly recommend this CD for listening. There's a broad range of musical styles on here. Everything from the techno, space-age guitar of "Orgasmatron," to the underwater quality of "Indian Time Zones" (reminiscent of a certain duran song :-), to the heavy-metal drive of "The Canarsie Daquiri," t the sensitive, melodic balladry of "Tardinha." "Ass Man" I can picture as being a "Dukes of Hazzard" theme song. While the title track, "Thanks 2 Frank" provides the best example of what Zappa's playing sounded like (aside from listening to Zappa himself). Probably why this song was named what it was, thanks to Frank for the musical influence on this album.

On a scale of one to ten, I give this album a perfect 10.
